Pathway is a tutorial for people beginning the study of the wire strung harp. Starting with descriptions of the instrument and the basics of holding the harp, the student is led on a journey into the basic techniques for playing the clarsach, the wire strung harp of Ireland and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
Just as was predicted in 2003 when it was first published, Pathway
has become a standard for the newcomer to the wire strung harp, providing a foundation in technique and musicianship. Through genuine repertoire of Ireland and Scotland, Cynthia guides students in a friendly, stepbystep fashion.
With this second edition marking the tenth anniversary of the first, Cynthia has included new material, techniques and an updated bibliography.
An on-line resource for harpers who are working through Pathway was launched with the release of the second edition. This password-protected resource is free for the use of anyone who purchases a copy of the book, whether first or second edition. The primary resource here is the sound recordings of the tunes in the book. Here you may listen to the recording directly from the webpage, or you link to a page where you can download the files in MP3, OGG or Windows Media format.
